I set out to rank oil filters for the 5.7 Hemi and spent most of the job on a question the product listings answer four different ways: which of the two Mopar filters your truck actually takes. Both thread onto the same M22x1.5 stud. One is a third of an inch shorter and three quarters of an inch narrower, and the reason for the change was not filtration.

The Two Filters This Engine Takes, and Why the Small One Exists
The 5.7 Hemi has used two spin-on filters, and they are not a supersession. They are two different parts that live in the same place.

The larger one is the Mopar MO-899, part number 04884899AC. WIX sells the same position as the 57899 and publishes it as 3.74 inches tall, 3.675 across, with a 16 PSI bypass valve and a 275 PSI burst rating. That filter went onto Gen III Hemis from the mid 2000s and is still the specified part on the Ram 2500 and 3500.
The smaller one is the Mopar MO-339, part number 04892339 in five suffixes. Its WIX equivalent is the 57060, published as 3.335 inches tall, 2.921 across, 12 PSI bypass and a 350 PSI burst rating on enhanced cellulose media. Shorter, much narrower, and rated to hold more pressure before the can splits.
The reason is the steering rack, not the filter
The Ram 1500 moved to electric power steering, and the assist motor went in underneath the oil filter. Owners describe the filter as sitting directly above the electric steering assist motor and the right hand tie rod, with the front crossmember in the way.
That is a packaging problem, and Chrysler solved it by shrinking the filter. It is also why the swap back to the bigger filter is a live topic: on the 5thGenRams forum a 2019 owner reports fitting the MO-899 with no clearance issues on a two wheel drive truck, while others in the same thread say it only goes in from the front rather than from below, and that a larger filter is a tight squeeze.
Four sources, four different changeover years
Nobody agrees on when the small filter arrived, and this is the single most useful thing to know before you buy.

FRAM and Premium Guard agree on 2013 and are the only two that state a boundary in writing on a product page. WIX lists both the 57060 and the 57899 for Ram 1500 5.7 trucks in the overlapping years, which is a catalogue saying "either of these threads on" rather than "this is the factory part".
Stellantis publishes none of this on a page the public can load. The reliable move is to look at the filter that is on the truck now, or measure the one you take off.
Why the Filter Matters More on This Engine Than on Most
The 5.7 Hemi runs the Multi-Displacement System, which shuts down cylinders 1, 4, 6 and 7 under light load. It does that hydraulically.
Four MDS solenoids send pressurised oil to a locking pin inside the lifter, and when debris blocks the circuit to that pin the lifter fails to change state. The roller then keeps following the cam lobe until it cannot, and the contact that follows takes out the lifter, the roller and the camshaft. Repair estimates start around $1,500 and go up from there.
This is the whole argument for filtration on a Hemi. Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the 5.7 do not use MDS, which is a real difference in what the oil is being asked to protect. On a 1500 the filter is feeding a small hydraulic circuit whose documented failure mode is contamination, and that is a stronger case for spending money on the filter than any efficiency percentage on a box.

Twenty microns is the tightest threshold anyone quotes for this filter position. Everything else here is looser or silent.
The rest of the data sheet is unusually complete for a retail filter. FRAM states a 9 to 15 PSI bypass relief setting, 3.330 inches tall by 3.000 across, and its own catalogue puts the fitment at Ram 1500 5.7L for 2013 through 2024, plus the Ram 1500 Classic from 2019.

The catch: read FRAM's own footnote. The 99%+ figure comes from testing the XG8A, XG3387A and XG4967 under ISO 4548-12, three part numbers that are not this one. FRAM is publishing a product-line result and letting it stand for every filter in the line.
Skip it if: your truck is a 2012 or older Ram 1500, or a 2500 or 3500, where this filter is the wrong size for the position.
2. WIX 57060: Best Published Data

The WIX 57060 has the most complete published data sheet of any filter that fits the 5.7 Hemi, and it is the cheapest way to know exactly what you bought.
WIX's catalogue gives the 57060 a 21 micron nominal rating, a beta ratio of 2/20=6/20, a 12 PSI bypass setting, a 350 PSI burst pressure and a 10 to 12 GPM flow rate. That burst figure is the highest of any filter here. No other brand in this list publishes both a bypass setting and a burst pressure for the part it is actually selling.
There is a second reason this pick exists. WIX also sells the 57060XP with synthetic blend media, and its catalogue entry drops the beta ratio, the nominal micron rating and the burst pressure entirely. Paying more gets you less information.

The catch: the Amazon listing and the WIX catalogue tell different stories. The listing claims 99% efficiency at 26 microns and adds "(Tested on WIX 51515)", another part number entirely, and caps the fitment at 2019 while WIX's own application table runs to 2026.
Skip it if: you want synthetic media, because the enhanced cellulose in the 57060 is a conventional filter and WIX rates it to 15,000 miles rather than 20,000.

The Purolator BOSS PBL12222 is the pick if you run 10,000-mile intervals on full synthetic and want the construction rather than the claim.
Purolator builds the BOSS around full synthetic SmartFUSION media with a reinforced polymer mesh backing, a double-helix metal centre tube, a heavy steel casing and an ethylene-acrylic PuroSEAL gasket. It is rated to 20,000 miles. Of the eight picks here, this is the one whose selling points are all physical.
That matters on a Hemi because the failure this engine is known for is a hydraulic circuit clogging, not a filter collapsing. A centre tube that holds its shape under a cold-start pressure spike is doing the job the MDS solenoids depend on. Construction is the claim here.

The catch: "over 99% of dirt" is not a specification. Purolator has never published a micron size for the BOSS line, which makes that percentage impossible to compare with FRAM's 20 microns or Mobil 1's 30, and the micron rating is where the meaning lives.
Skip it if: you compare filters on numbers, because this one asks you to buy the build quality on trust.
4. Mobil 1 M1-113A: Best for Once-a-Year Changes

The Mobil 1 M1-113A is the only filter here backed by a written one-year warranty, and it is also the only one whose maker quotes two different intervals on the same page.
Mobil publishes up to 99% filtration efficiency at 30 microns on synthetic fibre blend media, a 14 PSI bypass setting, and a canister tested under ISO 4548-6 to nine times normal operating pressure. Mobil's own page names the 2019 Ram 1500 as the most common application for this part.
The interval is where it gets strange. The specification block says 20,000 miles. The paragraph above it, and the Amazon listing, both say up to one full year or 25,000 miles. Same page, same product, two numbers.

The catch: 30 microns is the loosest threshold in this list, ten microns coarser than FRAM's. The M1-113A is also 3.66 inches tall against the 3.33 of the OE-size filter, which is a third of an inch of extra length in the one place on this truck where clearance was the reason the part shrank.
Skip it if: you only want one filter, since Amazon sells this part in two-packs and six-packs.
5. Mopar 04892339BE: Best OEM Replacement

The Mopar 04892339BE is the filter your Ram 1500 left the factory with, and Stellantis publishes nothing about it at all.
This is the current revision of the MO-339, the part WIX crosses to its 57060 and FRAM crosses to the XG10060. Buying it means buying the exact part the dealer fits, with the bypass setting and media the engine was calibrated around, and no way to check any of that yourself.
There is a case for that on this engine. The MDS lifters are a Chrysler design fed by a Chrysler filter, and the factory part is the only one whose behaviour was validated against them rather than inferred from a cross-reference table.

The catch: the part number has been revised at least five times, through AA, AB, BA, BB and BE, and Amazon sells several of those suffixes as separate listings. The one with by far the most ratings is the older AA, not this one. Mopar explains none of the changes.

6. K&N HP-1017: Best for a Filter You Cannot Reach

The K&N HP-1017 is the only filter here with a nut welded to the end of it, and on this truck that is worth more than it sounds.
The Hemi's filter sits above the electric steering assist motor behind the front crossmember. A conventional filter in that spot needs a cap or strap wrench worked in blind. The K&N HP-1017 takes a socket.
K&N pairs that with pleated synthetic blend media and a 20,000-mile protection claim in the product title. It is the highest-rated filter in this list by volume, at 4.8 stars across more than 3,000 ratings.

The catch: K&N asks for a 20,000-mile interval while publishing no efficiency figure and no micron size anywhere on the listing, which describes the media only as removing "most harmful contaminants". Knfilters.com was down for maintenance on both attempts to check the specification directly, so nothing beyond the listing could be confirmed.
Skip it if: the interval claim is what you are buying, because the number behind it is not published.
7. PG PG2222EX: Best Budget Pick

The PG PG2222EX is the cheapest filter here with synthetic media, and its listing is one of the two clearest statements anywhere of which years take this filter.
The title reads "Fits 2013-2026 Ram 1500 5.7L". FRAM's catalogue says 2013 as well, from a different company, and those two agreeing is most of the reason this article puts the boundary there rather than at WIX's 2010.
Premium Guard specifies advanced synthetic media, a silicone valve and gasket, a heavy-duty steel canister and up to 10,000 miles with synthetic oil. That is half the interval of the premium picks. You change it twice as often.

The catch: Premium Guard now owns the brand it is competing with. PGI acquired FRAM and the First Brands filter production lines in 2026 after First Brands collapsed, which means the number one pick and the budget pick in this list are now the same company. This is the second Mopar entry here for a reason: it is not a different grade of the same filter, it is the factory part for the other half of the fleet. The MO-899 covers Gen III Hemi Ram 1500s before the changeover, and it is still current on the Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 5.7.
Its WIX equivalent publishes a 16 PSI bypass setting against the 12 PSI of the small filter, on a body 3.74 inches tall and 3.675 across. That is a higher opening pressure and a bigger can, which is the combination people are chasing when they fit the MO-899 to a newer truck. It is also the older design.

The catch: on a 2013 or newer Ram 1500 this filter is a clearance gamble rather than a fitment. Owners report it going in from the front rather than from below, one reports no issues at all on a two wheel drive truck, and none of them can tell you whether yours has the same room.

Nothing here was physically tested. There is no lab, no teardown, no mileage trial, and no filter was cut open for this article.
The ranking is built from published manufacturer specifications, read off each maker's own product page or catalogue rather than a retailer's summary, and cross-checked against a second document wherever one exists. The dimensional and bypass figures come from the WIX catalogue lookup, the efficiency claims from FRAM's and Mobil's own product pages, and the part-number equivalences from manufacturer cross-reference tables rather than aggregator charts.
Candidates were found by searching Amazon the way an owner would, then filtered. Sponsored placements were discarded before any ranking. Listings from sellers with no identifiable manufacturer were dropped, because a filter with no published specification anywhere cannot be ranked against one that has them.
Where a manufacturer publishes nothing, the specification tables say "Not published" rather than borrowing a number from a similar part. Six of the eight picks have at least one such cell, and four of them have three. That is the honest state of this category, and it is the reason the top two picks are the two that publish the most.

Check whose part number the efficiency claim was measured on. FRAM's footnote puts its 99%+ test on the XG8A, XG3387A and XG4967. The WIX 57060 listing attributes its 99% at 26 microns to the 51515. Both are publishing a family result on an individual box, which is legal, common, and not the same as testing the filter you bought.
On a 1500, the MDS circuit is what you are protecting. Debris in the lifter locking-pin circuit is the documented start of the cam and lifter failure this engine is known for. That is an argument for changing the filter on schedule with clean oil, and it is a better argument than any single brand's marketing. It also does not apply to a 2500 or 3500, which do not run MDS.

Mobil 1 M1-212A surfaces on searches for a 2019 Ram 1500 5.7 and does not fit it. WIX crosses that part number to its 57502, 57045 and WL10255, which are GM applications. Mobil 1's filter for this engine is the M1-113A.
The unbranded 05038041AA listings claim to fit the Ram 1500 5.7 and are selling a Viper filter. WIX maps Mopar 05038041AA to its 57063, whose principal application is the Dodge Viper SRT-10 8.4L and the 2016 to 2017 Hellcat cars. It does thread onto a Hemi, and Ram owners have fitted it deliberately as the SRT filter, but a listing that presents it as the Ram 1500 part is describing an oversize swap as a fitment.
Purolator L24651 is a legitimate cross for the MO-899 position and its Amazon title leads with the Ford F-150. A 5.7 Hemi owner searching for a Ram filter will never see it.
Keyword-brand listings were dropped as a group. One of them is a filter sold under the brand name "Struggling", with a title that consists of the two WIX part numbers it copies. There are a dozen more like it, none has a manufacturer website, and none publishes a specification.
