NAPA Filter Cross Reference: Oil, Air, Cabin and Fuel Numbers Decoded
NAPA Gold numbers are WIX numbers with the first digit dropped, for oil, air, cabin and fuel filters. The number still crosses; who builds the filter has changed.
A NAPA Gold filter number is the WIX number with its first digit removed: oil filter WIX 57060 is NAPA Gold 7060, air filter 42793 is 2793, cabin filter 24007 is 4007, and fuel filter 33023 is 3023. The number still crosses correctly. What has changed is who builds the filter behind it.
How Do NAPA Filter Numbers Work?
NAPA's filter numbering was built on WIX's catalogue, and for the standard Gold line it still follows one rule: take the WIX part number and drop the leading digit. The leading digit is WIX's filter-type code, so once it goes, the four digits that are left are the same in both catalogues.

| Filter type | WIX number | NAPA Gold number |
|---|---|---|
| Oil | 57060 | 7060 |
| Engine air | 42793 | 2793 |
| Cabin air | 24007 | 4007 |
| Fuel | 33023 | 3023 |
I did not want to trust the rule on assertion, so I checked each pair against a third manufacturer that knows nothing about the NAPA and WIX relationship. K&N's cross-reference tool returns the same K&N part whether you ask it about NAPA 7060 or WIX 57060 (HP-1017 and SO-1017), NAPA 2793 or WIX 42793 (the 2187 air filter for the Ford Escape), NAPA 4007 or WIX 24007 (DVF5075, Nissan Titan and Infiniti QX80), and NAPA 3023 or WIX 33023 (PF-1100).
What the Silver, Gold and Platinum Prefixes Mean
NAPA sells its filters in three tiers, and on oil filters the tier shows up as a prefix on the same core number. NAPA's own product pages list the Gold filter as "FIL 1348" with no prefix, the Platinum version as "PFL 61348", and the Silver version of the 7502 as "SFL 37502".
So Silver adds a 3, Platinum adds a 6, and Gold stays bare. NAPA's site grades Gold as quality level "Better" and Platinum as "Best". I confirmed the Silver and Platinum prefixes on oil filters only; I found no Silver or Platinum air, cabin or fuel numbers to test them against.
The Six-Digit Numbers That Break the Rule
Not every NAPA Gold number fits the pattern. NAPA also lists Gold oil filters with six-digit numbers such as 107503, which has no WIX equivalent you can reach by dropping a digit.
NAPA's own page gives the FIL 107503 the same 3/4-16 thread, 3.44 inch height and 2.99 inch diameter as the FIL 1348, and K&N crosses it to SO-1002, the same filter it returns for WIX 51348. That makes the 107503 look like a second number for the PH3614-size filter, but NAPA publishes nothing linking the two, so treat any six-digit Gold number as one to verify rather than decode.
NAPA Cross Reference Chart: Verified Examples
These are the pairs I confirmed with a second manufacturer's lookup rather than copied from a chart. The FRAM and Purolator columns come from our existing single-filter pages, which were researched against manufacturer documents.
| NAPA Gold | WIX | Other confirmed equivalents |
|---|---|---|
| 1348 (oil) | 51348 | FRAM PH3614, Purolator L10241, K&N HP-1002 |
| 1372 (oil) | 51372 | FRAM PH2, Motorcraft FL820S, K&N SO-2010 |
| 7060 (oil) | 57060 | K&N HP-1017, SO-1017 |
| 2793 (air) | 42793 | K&N 33-2187, Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute |
| 4007 (cabin) | 24007 | K&N DVF5075, Nissan Titan, Infiniti QX80 |
| 3023 (fuel) | 33023 | K&N PF-1100 |
A cross reference tells you two filters fit the same engine. It does not tell you they perform the same, and with NAPA that distinction now matters more than it used to.
Is NAPA Gold the Same as WIX?
The numbers are; the filters may not be. For most of NAPA's history the answer was a straight yes: NAPA's own 2018 release describes NAPA Filters as products "manufactured by MANN+HUMMEL", the German company that owns WIX, and calls the partnership more than 50 years old.
That changed from late 2023. A NAPA store owner posting in October 2023 told customers that NAPA had decided to part ways with WIX and that part numbers would not change, with Baldwin and Donaldson named for some regions. By mid-2025, owners on the largest oil filter forum were reporting that most NAPA Gold spin-on applications had moved from WIX to Premium Guard.
One line still names WIX outright. NAPA's own product page for the Silver SFL 37502 lists the manufacturer as Wix and the manufacturer part number as 57502, so the budget tier is, on that evidence, a WIX filter in a NAPA box.
Who Makes NAPA Filters Now?
Neither NAPA nor its supplier has said so in a sentence, but the primary documents point one way. NAPA's own filter lookup app, NAPA Filters, is published in the App Store by Premium Guard Inc, with its first version dated February 2024.
In March 2026 Premium Guard received NAPA's Spirit of NAPA award, and its release says the partnership played a key role in one of the most significant changeovers in NAPA's history. It stops short of naming which NAPA lines it builds.
Premium Guard is the Memphis company that bought the FRAM brand out of the First Brands bankruptcy in 2026, and it already supplies Carquest. So the same firm now sits behind FRAM, much of Carquest and most of NAPA Gold, which is a bigger shift than any cross-reference chart shows.
The number on a NAPA Gold box still tells you what fits. It no longer tells you who made it, so compare specifications, not brand history.
What NAPA Publishes About Filter Performance
NAPA publishes more than most store brands, but the small print matters. The headline efficiency figure on a Gold oil filter page is not a measurement of that filter.
| NAPA line | What NAPA's page states | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Gold oil | 99% efficient at 30 microns, ISO 4548-12 | Based on NAPA Gold 1515, 1356 and 7060 |
| Gold air | At least 99% efficiency, ISO 5011 | Based on that part's own number |
| Platinum oil | 20 micron, up to 99%, up to 25,000 miles | The asterisked footnote is not on the page |
| Silver oil | 21 micron, cellulose media | No efficiency percentage at all |
| Gold fuel | Nothing | No micron or efficiency figure listed |
The Gold oil filter footnote is the one to read. NAPA's page for the FIL 1348 states 99% efficiency at 30 microns, then adds that the figure is "based on NAPA Gold # 1515, 1356, 7060", and the 18 gram dirt capacity comes from the 1515 alone. Unless you are buying one of those three, the number on your box was measured on a different filter.
The air filter pages are stricter. NAPA's page for the FIL 2793 cites its ISO 5011 result as "based on NAPA #2793", the same part, which is the honest way to publish a rating. Bear in mind that an air filter percentage is a weight of dust captured, so it never compares with an oil filter percentage.
Check Dimensions Against a Second Source
NAPA's spec tables are not error free. The Platinum PFL 61348 page lists a height of 0.17 inches, and the PFL 61036 page gives a height of 1.433 inches, the same figure it gives for the filter's weight in pounds.
Neither is possible for a spin-on oil filter. When a NAPA dimension looks wrong, check the Gold or WIX equivalent of the same core number, since the tier changes the media, not the can.
How to Look Up a NAPA Cross Reference
The safest route runs from your vehicle to the number, not from one brand's number to another's.
- Start from the OE number or your vehicle. Your owner's manual or a dealer parts listing gives the factory part number, which is the only reference every catalogue agrees on.
- Use NAPA's own interchange. The NAPA Filters app accepts an OE or competitor part number and converts it to the NAPA part, which is NAPA's official answer.
- Decode to WIX if you need to. Add the type digit back: 5 for oil, 4 for most air filters, 2 for cabin and 3 for fuel. That gives you the WIX number and, through WIX, the wider interchange.
- Confirm with a second manufacturer. K&N's NAPA index accepts NAPA numbers for oil, air, cabin and fuel filters and is a quick independent check.
- Compare the physical specification. Thread, gasket diameter, height and bypass setting decide whether a filter is a true replacement, whatever the chart says.
What Owners Report About Newer NAPA Gold Filters
Anecdotes, not data, but they are worth knowing. In December 2025 an owner reported a new NAPA Gold oil filter that would not thread fully onto the engine because its threads were not fully formed, and NAPA refunded it without question.
Other members of the same forum reported recent NAPA Gold filters that fitted normally, one from a plain box with a NAPA sticker. No NAPA bulletin covers the issue, so the practical lesson is simply to spin any new filter on by hand first and stop if it binds before the gasket meets the base.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is NAPA Gold made by WIX?
Historically yes, and NAPA's own 2018 release said its filters were manufactured by MANN+HUMMEL, WIX's parent. Since late 2023 NAPA has moved much of the Gold line to other suppliers, with owner reports pointing to Premium Guard for most spin-on oil filters. The part numbers did not change, so a Gold number still crosses to the same WIX number.
What is the WIX equivalent of a NAPA Gold filter?
Add the WIX type digit to the front of the NAPA Gold number. Oil filters take a 5, so NAPA Gold 1348 is WIX 51348, while air filters usually take a 4, cabin filters a 2 and fuel filters a 3. Six-digit NAPA numbers such as 107503 do not follow this rule and need a lookup instead.
What is the difference between NAPA Silver, Gold and Platinum filters?
They are three quality tiers on the same fitment. On oil filters, Silver carries a 3 prefix and cellulose media rated at 21 microns, Gold has no prefix and enhanced cellulose media, and Platinum carries a 6 prefix with synthetic media rated at 20 microns for up to 25,000 miles on full synthetic oil.
Does NAPA have a filter cross reference tool?
Yes. The NAPA Filters app converts an OE or competitor part number into the matching NAPA part, and NAPA's website looks filters up by vehicle. For a second opinion, K&N's cross-reference index accepts NAPA numbers directly, and the WIX catalogue covers any Gold number once you add the type digit back.
Are NAPA air, cabin and fuel filter numbers based on WIX too?
Yes, for the Gold line. Air filter 2793 is WIX 42793, cabin filter 4007 is WIX 24007, and fuel filter 3023 is WIX 33023, and K&N's lookup returns the same part for each NAPA and WIX pair. The rule is the same as for oil: the NAPA number is the WIX number without its first digit.
Where to Go From Here
If you already know your WIX number, you know your NAPA Gold number, and the reverse is just as quick. Before you buy, check the thread and gasket against the filter you are replacing, and if efficiency matters to you, read the footnote under the headline figure rather than the figure itself.
