A Kubota oil filter cross reference starts with the number stamped on the filter you are removing, not with your tractor model. Kubota renumbers the same physical filter repeatedly, so one filter can answer to four Kubota numbers at once, and no public Kubota chart maps those numbers to other brands.

That last point is the whole difficulty. Every Kubota cross reference you find online was assembled from parts catalogues rather than copied from a manufacturer chart, because there is no manufacturer chart to copy. This guide shows what can actually be confirmed, what cannot, and why the charts disagree so badly.

Why a Kubota Cross Reference Is Harder Than a Car One

For a passenger car filter, two or three filter makers publish charts that agree with each other. Kubota is not in that system.

The industry's standard quick cross reference document is Baldwin's Form 574, the one heavy equipment counters actually work from. Its current edition is organised into sections for Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, International, Mack, Mercedes-Benz, PACCAR and Volvo, plus a popular air filter list.

There is no Kubota section in it at all. I read the whole form looking for one.

That absence explains a lot. The document every other cross reference article leans on simply does not cover this brand, so Kubota charts get built from aggregator databases instead, and aggregator databases are where the contradictions come from.

Kubota's own public filter pages are marketing rather than reference. They describe the product line and its efficiency claim, and they do not carry a competitor number anywhere. The oil filter brochure hosted on Kubota's engine site would not return its contents when I tried to read it.

How to Read a Kubota Oil Filter Part Number

A Kubota filter number has a prefix and a five-digit block, written as HH150-32430 or 15853-32430. Neither half decodes into a specification.

What does the HH prefix mean?

HH is Kubota's current parts prefix for filters, replacing the older all-numeric format. HH150, HH160, HH164 and HHK70 all appear on lube filters, and the letters do not tell you the size, the thread or the engine family.

The trailing block behaves the same way. 32430 shows up on many different Kubota lube filters, and 14070 appears on both lube and hydraulic parts, so a number ending in a familiar block is not evidence that two filters interchange.

Why does one filter have four Kubota numbers?

Because Kubota supersedes numbers without changing the part. The filter fitted to a D722 or D902 has carried at least four Kubota numbers across its life: 70000-15241, then 15853-32430, then HH150-32430, and currently HH1J0-32430.

Those are not four filters. They are one filter and four catalogue entries, and dealer parts systems still list all of them.

This is the single most useful thing to know before you start searching. If a chart shows two Kubota numbers crossing to different competitor parts, check first whether the two Kubota numbers are actually the same filter a generation apart.

Kubota does not publish a supersession table on its public site. The chains above come from dealer parts catalogues, which is the only place they are written down, so treat them as trade knowledge rather than a manufacturer statement.

The K&N Test: One Kubota Number, Four Different Filters

This is the finding that changed how I wrote the rest of this guide.

K&N publishes its own Kubota cross reference index, covering roughly a hundred Kubota filter numbers. It is a manufacturer document, not an aggregator, so it is the best second source available for this brand.

Look up HH150-32430 in it and K&N returns four different filters: HP-1004, HP-1008, HP-2004 and SO-1008.

All four of these are what K&N's own cross reference returns for a single Kubota part number, and the third one carries a 3/4-16 thread against M20 x 1.5 on the first two, so it cannot be fitted to the same engine at all.

They are not variants of one part. Three of them carry published specifications, and those specifications rule two of them out:

The HP-2004 has a different thread. It cannot be screwed onto the same mount as the other two, and it stands more than an inch and a half taller. K&N lists the fourth number, HP-1008, on the same page without a spec sheet I could confirm.

A manufacturer's own cross reference is returning four answers to one question, and at least one of them will not physically fit. This is the filter most people are searching for. It fits the small three-cylinder and two-cylinder diesels used across the BX series, and the same filter turns up on Grasshopper mowers with Kubota power.

The K&N SO-1008 is the dimensional match out of the four numbers K&N returns, and its published cross list carries WIX 51365 and FRAM PH6607 alongside it. Luber-finer PH2876 appears independently in two separate databases, which is the closest thing to corroboration this row gets.

I could not confirm WIX 51365 on WIX's own site. Their part detail page returned nothing when I tried to load it, so that number reaches this chart through K&N's list rather than through WIX's.

Every row in this table is single-sourced from aggregator databases. No manufacturer document I could reach carries these pairings, so verify with a dealer before buying on the strength of them.

The larger tractor filter: HHK70-14070

Fleetguard LF3434, Donaldson P550711 and P550227, and Baldwin B113 are all listed against this Kubota number by filter distributors. None of it appears in a manufacturer chart I could open, so this row is a lead to check rather than an answer.

Note also that HHK70-14070 and HHK70-14080 are different Kubota numbers, and both exist. A single digit here is not a typo to correct silently.

Watch for European Catalogue Numbers

Search a Kubota number on the large cross reference databases and a good share of the answers come back in European numbering: Mann W67/1, Hengst H97W06, Purflux LS892, WIX WL7200.

WIX runs two catalogues. The WL series is its European light-duty numbering, and the 51-series numbers are the North American ones that a US parts counter will recognise. A chart that answers a US search with a WL number is not wrong exactly, but it is unusable at the counter.

This is worth knowing because it makes some apparent contradictions disappear. Two charts giving different WIX numbers for one Kubota filter may simply be quoting two different WIX catalogues.

What Kubota Actually Publishes About Its Filters

One number, and it is a good one.

Kubota states that its genuine filters are engineered for 99.5% filtration efficiency, and it names the test: ISO 19438. Naming the standard matters, because an efficiency figure without a test method and a particle size is not comparable to anything.

What Kubota does not publish anywhere I could find: the micron size that 99.5% figure is measured at, the bypass valve setting, the thread specification, or the media type. Those are exactly the four things you would need to judge whether an aftermarket filter is equivalent.

So the honest position is that the spec-by-spec comparison most readers want cannot be made from Kubota's published data. Aftermarket brands publish bypass settings and threads. Kubota does not, so any claim that a given aftermarket filter matches the Kubota bypass setting is an assumption rather than a comparison.

Can You Use an Automotive Oil Filter on a Kubota?

Sometimes it threads on, and that is not the same as it being right.

The M20 x 1.5 thread on the small Kubota filters is common across Japanese engines, so plenty of automotive filters will physically fit. Height is the constraint people miss. A taller filter on a compact tractor can foul the frame or the loader mount, and a shorter one holds less oil.

The deeper problem is that you cannot verify the match. Without a published Kubota bypass setting, choosing an automotive filter on thread and diameter alone means matching two specifications out of five and hoping about the rest.

If you are running the machine hard, in dust, or on extended intervals, that is a poor trade for the money saved. How to Cross Reference a Kubota Filter Properly

  1. Read the number off the old filter, all of it, including the prefix. Do not start from the tractor model, because one model year can span two filter numbers.
  2. Check whether your number has been superseded. Search the number plus the word "replaces" and see whether a newer Kubota number claims it. Four numbers may all be the same filter.
  3. Measure the old filter before you order anything: outer diameter, height, and thread. Two minutes with a caliper beats any chart.
  4. Treat one chart as a hypothesis. Confirm the same pairing in a second independent source before you buy, exactly as you would with any oil filter cross reference.
  5. Ignore the tractor-model lists on listings. A seller listing forty compatible models is describing a dimension group, not a fitment.
  6. Take unresolved numbers to a Kubota dealer with your engine serial number. For this brand the dealer counter genuinely is the primary source, because Kubota did not publish one.
